Frequently asked questions

1. What actually is Wavy Gravy?

Wavy Gravy is real, slow-simmered stock that’s been reduced down into a thick concentrate. You squeeze out a tablespoon, add hot water, and you’ve got proper stock – for gravy, soups, stews, sauces and everything else you cook when you’re pretending not to care.

2. How do I use it and how strong is it?

It’s simple: 1 tablespoon of Wavy Gravy = 100ml of stock. Whisk it into hot water (or straight into a pan with a bit of water) until it’s smooth, then adjust to taste if you want it richer or lighter. No roux, no floury paste, no weird lumps.

3. Is this just gravy granules in a fancy bottle?

Gravy granules are basically "pretend" gravy. They are vegan, and have never been near an animal product. Their journey starts and ends in a lab and industrial factory.

Our gravy is real, proper food, made the proper way. All the goodness and flavour of real meat juices, in an easy to use concentrated format.

4. What can I use it for besides gravy?

Pretty much anything that needs depth: stews, casseroles, bolognese, risotto, ramen-style broths, traybakes, pan sauces, Sunday veg, noodles, beans – if you’d add stock or a stock cube, you can add Wavy Gravy instead. The line is “real stock for gravy and more” for a reason.

5. How much gravy can i make with a bottle?

Each 250–300ml bottle is highly concentrated meat stock. Because it’s a concentrate, that “little” bottle makes around 2 litres of gravy.

6. What’s actually in it? Are there any weird additives?

We keep it kitchen-simple: bones or veg, water, herbs, spices, a bit of salt and natural acidity – plus a couple of things you’d recognise from a normal pantry if we need them. No artificial flavours, no mysterious E-number soup, just a few things to help it thicken in the pan so your concentrate goes further.

7. Is it better for me than gravy granules?

Our meat stocks are made from real bones and long cooks, so they’re naturally rich in collagen. Its more nutritious than the gravy granules you're used too - but should be enjoyed as part of a balanced, healthy lifestyle.

8. Is it gluten-free / dairy-free / suitable for vegans?

Our vegetable stock is completely vegan. The meat versions obviously aren’t, but all recipes are designed to be gluten-free and dairy-free as standard (always check the label in case we tweak something). If we ever add an allergen, it’ll be clearly flagged – no sneaking things in.

9. How do I store it and how long does it last?

Store the bottle in the fridge once opened. Because it’s concentrated and lightly salted, it keeps well – you’ll see a “best before” on the label, but most people finish it long before that. If it separates a touch over time, just give it a shake and carry on.

Proudly Made in North Yorkshire.

We rescue fresh, and nutritious chicken and beef bones.

We roast and boil them to create deep, delicious, natural flavour.

Then we reduce it all down into a flavour dense stock, and add a few natural starches so it thickens up in your pan at home.
